AN ENCOURAGEMENT – GIVE THANKS

Eucharist. The Greek word meaning thanksgiving. The offering of gratitude.

As we replace the turkeys and pumpkins with holly and tinsel I pray that we not loose sight of the eucharist we expressed just days ago when our tables and homes were full of laughter, loved ones and good food. May eucharist be the posture of our hearts as we enter in to this next season and every season to follow.

Eucharist does not require happy circumstances or joyful events; it can be expressed through pain, a sacrificial offering through trials and heartache. And, while eucharist does not change the circumstances, it changes our focus, attitude, perspective.

I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders.   – Psalm 9:1

Every offering of thanksgiving, from the large to the seemingly small, is a gift of praise. A way we turn our focus from ourselves, our current situation, to God. Make a list, count your blessings. How many can you name, how far can you go? The eucharist is hard to stop once it has begun, for there is no end, there is no way to run out of wonders to awe. Give it a try. Don’t let the meaning of this season slip by on the wave of busy and gifts and stuff. Give thanks for all he’s done, is doing now, and all that we have to look forward to.

Lord, thank you for your many wonders. I pray, today, that you would give us hearts full of eucharist. Even in the hard, especially in the hard, may we count our blessings. Open our eyes to see the beauty in the ordinary and mundane. May our lives be mark by thanksgiving and praise. And, may our thanks always point to your goodness and glory. You are good and worthy of all praise.
