DARE TO DREAM

I don’t have an official bucket list or anything. I do have some rather unusual dreams, though.

For example, I’d like to design my own line of office supplies. Pretty and useful, and of course I’d need to partner with my favorite brands: Post-It and Sharpie.

And, being the voice for an audiobook sounds fun if I could be promised that I would never, and I mean never!, have to listen to the play-back of my voice.

But at the top of my unusual dreams is my desire to cowrite songs. To be a songwriter of sorts, but really just being a part of writing one hit song would do just fine. Needtobreathe is the band name beside this dream, but I’m open. Also, I happen to be available for a reasonable rate. And, while I have never actually written lyrics to a song before, I have all the confidence in the world that I can at least contribute a good word or two to a project. (Have your people call me.)

In all seriousness, I love song lyrics. Poetry set to music. Words hold power, and poetry stretches the meaning of each word, manipulating language, bending rules. Poetry often causes us to consider and struggle and ponder. It is both rebellious and beautiful.

A musician does with sound what a poet does with words. This combination of music and words has been connecting people for centuries,  and when depth of meaning and appropriate tune are combined just so, they have the ability to touch the tender places of humanity. With Weight and significance.

To help write lyrics for music seems a great honor. I’d like to give it a try one day.

It’s just a dream, of course, but as the weather cools and summer fades into fall I am reminded that our lives are full of seasons as well. Maybe I will never get to write beautiful lyrics such as, “I’ll follow your heartbeat / To set the pace” (Slow Motion by Matt Wertz), but who knows…maybe I will.

And, I never want to stop dreaming big, audacious dreams.

After all, dreaming reminds us that we are alive.

What crazy dreams do you have? Just for fun, write them down, tell a friend, comment below. Let’s see how far our crazy dreams go when we release their impossibility, perhaps sparking life into what just may become the possible.
